Call for papers - Visual studies
The Sociální Studia journal announces a call for abstracts for a special issue in English on the theme:
VISUAL STUDIES - SCIENCE, ART, INSTITUTIONS/ENCOUNTER IMAGINATION
This special issue is interdisciplinary: submissions from researchers and artists connecting different fields of study are most welcome, as are submissions in various genres.
The Sociální Studia journal invites original research articles on the above theme from all relevant social science, humanities and fine arts disciplines and methodological approaches. The deadline for the submission of paper abstracts (300–500 words) is January 31, 2014. The guest editors of the special issue, Eva Šlesingerová (firstname.lastname@example.org) and B. Nadya Jaworsky (email@example.com), together with the editor-in-chief, will inform successful authors of the selection of their proposed paper abstracts by February 15, 2014. Full-text papers are due no later than April 30, 2014. The special issue’s planned publication date is in late 2014. Paper abstracts and papers should be submitted to the journal’s email address: firstname.lastname@example.org.
An overview of the current trends of convergence, mutual inspiration and collaboration in the social and natural sciences, art and new technologies in visual studies, point to an interesting “turn towards cooperation” or a “turn towards/against imagination”, particularly in the conceptual but also in the methodological spheres, where the permeation of artistic and scientific creation is most visible. The special issue aims to cross the boundaries between different disciplines and to open up visual studies, methodology, research and popularization, not only to provide interdisciplinary leeway for meeting researchers from various intellectual worlds, but also a place for sharing diverse interpretations and critical discussions.
We are interested in:
o Papers dealing with visual culture theories; perspective, portrayal, representation and production of images
o Textual and/or visual presentations of original artistic projects
o Critical analyses and interpretations of images or visuality based on specific research
o Texts concerning methodological analyses using visual data
All papers should be the author’s original work and follow the guidelines for papers submitted to the Sociální studia Journal, available on the journal website: http://socstudia.fss.muni.cz/. Any specific questions about the special issue should be addressed to the guest editors at their emails above. Other text genres, such as book reviews, brief conference or exhibition reports, project reports and documents, etc., are also welcome.
